It’s a budget hotel at way higher than budget prices - the only good thing about it was the location (but the prices were still on the high side for that area). My biggest complaint is the housekeeping - they did a terrible job cleaning the room, but for 2 hours every day, there would be 2-4 housekeepers on the floor screaming at each other from different rooms, making it impossible to sleep past 8:30am (at least in my floor- I assume they move to different locations throughout the day).

Exceedingly Average

The Gallivant is adequate for a night, maybe 2. But “adequate” is about the best I can say for it. The elevators are cramped, and during my stay one was out of service, which meant there were a couple times (just in a 24-hour stay) when my wife and I had to wait for a couple cycles because the elevator was full. The shower has a half-panel screen with no door, so much of the bathroom floor got wet from water splashing out of the shower. And the bed, while not terrible, did have a noticeable depression in the middle. I can’t say it’s the worst hotel I’ve stayed in in NYC, but I don’t plan on returning to it.

Worn Down Hotel

The hotel is very worn. I was so disappointed and the pictures do not give a good representation of the current conditions. Lots of broken items and it feels dirty. The worst parts was the elevator system. It was very slow and sometimes you weren't even able to get one because it was so packed brining down other guests. We ended up taking the stairs most of the time and we were on a high floor. For the amount of money spent, I would have expected a bit more bang for your buck. Two positives are locations (if you don't mind it being bust) because it is close to a lot of placed we were visiting and main attractions. Also, the staff was kind and helpful.

Great location and good bed, but run down, etc.

Room a/c wasn’t consistent and randomly went blistering hot at night when it was set on 69° Cold. Which is not fun when you’re staying only one night. Bathroom has a half door and gets wet everywhere. Very annoying and small. Only one outlet worked in the whole room, which was also frustrating. I was in town for a meeting, only one night, so it was fine overall because the location was perfect. However, I’d never bring my wife here with me: she would cringe at the lackluster lobby decor/design alone. It was a wild concoction of I-dont-know-what, but definitely not worthy of a “resort fee.”

Great location, but just ok rooms

Not as well kept as the photos would make you think. Also, of the three elevators, only one was working and at prime times could take 10 minutes. Luckily, we were not too high up, so we were okay taking the stairs. We were in two rooms (the first did not having a working AC unit nor was it the king bed that we booked); it was 76 F in there when we arrived. The furniture is more than a bit beaten up but the bed itself was comfortable. The shower floods the floor when you use it due to poor design (no way around it since there is no shower door nor curtain). Staff was mixed in friendliness except the cleaning staff on both floors that we were on: they were amazing, so friendly and kind and wanting to help. Also, location is great for seeing Broadway shows. 5-10 min from most theaters.

Far from luxury hotel, but survivable.

I’ll admit, I was honestly nervous before arriving at The Gallivant Times Square. I had read quite a few negative reviews online, and they definitely made me hesitant. Unfortunately, my experience did confirm some of those warnings—particularly about the front desk. Upon check-in, we were greeted by the same sassy (or maybe just plain cocky) receptionist that several other guests have mentioned in their reviews. Not exactly the warmest welcome. The hotel itself is very basic. There's no restaurant or any major amenities, but if you're simply looking for a place to sleep while spending most of your time exploring the city, it does the job. Our room was reasonably clean overall, although there was some dust in the corners. Housekeeping was offered daily, which was a plus. That said, there were a few hygiene concerns. We noticed small flies on the bathroom ceiling—not pleasant, but also not a huge disturbance. However, on our last day, we found a dead cockroach, which was just gross. Also worth noting: there was no mini-fridge in the room, which was a bit of a letdown. It’s something you’d normally expect in even budget hotels, so its absence was definitely inconvenient. The biggest upside is the location. If you want to be right in the heart of Manhattan, you can’t beat it. You're steps away from Times Square and close to many attractions. Péssima experiência

Na terceira tentativa de fazer o check-in (quarto não estava pronto no horário), fomos informados que o tipo de quarto reservado estava indisponível e nos colocariam em um quarto em categoria inferior. O atendimento da recepcionista e do gerente foram péssimos. Grosseiros e intransigentes, chegando o gerente a dizer que não poderiam nos ajudar, que o hotel não tinha recebido nenhum pagamento nosso e que deveriamos reclamar com o Hotels.com. Quarto minúsculo, sem frigobar e com elevadores muito demorados. Somente a localização era boa. Experiência muito frustrante pelo alto valor pago.
